A dose of photography - Could a Nomad be in Chevrolet’s future too, but what should it look like?

For the past four years, I have been seeing this Chevrolet Nomad Concept Car on the auto show circuit at both the Boston show and the Providence show and while the vehicle has gotten my father’s attention, meaning he likes it, personally it’s not a real Nomad to me. A Chevrolet Nomad would be a good added edition to the Chevrolet lineup as a modern version of the famous car from 1955-1957, a two-door station wagon which would include a large bench backseat with lots of room behind the backseat for whatever you buy or haul around.

This version pictured below reminds me of a Pontiac Solstice Coupe or its sister version the Saturn Sky. Personally if Chevrolet really wanted to make the Chevy Nomad as a throwback to the classic 1955 version, then they could use the new Pontiac G8 rear wheel drive platform to produce this car and while that might sell, I’m not much for a rear wheel drive car as I live in New England where five months out of the year it’s winter. Maybe it’s possible for an all-wheel drive v6 version Chevy Nomad??? How about an all-wheel-drive v6 version of the Pontiac G8??? Comments.

The picture tells the story, It's not even Thanksgiving Day yet and I'm watching the first snow fall right out side my front door. Southern New England snow... what a sight and yet to early.

8racingfan.com is calling on all media to campaign for DEI to give Dale Jr. the number 8.

This image was taken by me up at NHIS back in 2005.

From 8racingfan.com: I call on Teresa Earnhardt to make a deal with Junior or Hendrick to give Junior the number 8. The fans would appreciate and it’s good for the Earnhardt family. I call on all media outlets, including blogs, to continue this campaign.
As a Dale Jr. fan, I love this idea, the #8 has alot of history with the Earnhardt's including it was the number Ralph Earnhardt raced under (Dale Jr's Grandfather) and Dale Jr. has done this number proud including winning the 2004 Daytona 500 and it should stay that way. So comtinue the campaign and spread the word, the fans would appreciate it. See Yeah!

A dose of photography - 2002 Chevrolet El Camino SS Concept

Image was taken by me with a Kodak EasyShare DX6490.

Keeping with the auto industry theme, a 2002 Chevrolet El Camino SS Concept car that was on display back in September 2003 at the Sylvania 300 for the NASCAR Cup Series at New Hampshire International Speedway.
This car reminds me of Tim Allen's 1996 (I think) Chevrolet Impala that he customist and was featured in Car and Driver Magazine...See Yeah!

The Northeast season opener at the 2007 Speedway Expo in Springfield, Mass.

Image was taken by me with a Kodak EasyShare DX6490.

Just like most of my racing trips, a planed yet on the fly trip, this one way an 1.5 hour highway drive to Springfield, Massachusetts for the first annual (I think..) Speedway Expo that is put on by Dick Berggren’s Speedway Illustrated and Town Fair Tire. This I believ is the replace for Racearama.

Once we get there, it starts with a $5 parking fee which includes a $5 off coupon for Speedway Illustrated Magazine one year/12 issues. Now that that’s over, $15 each for admission…now we are up to $35 total plus gasoline and Mass Pike tolls (unknown.)

I have to say, compared to the 2001-2003 Racearama shows I went to at the same location, it lacks by at least 50%, my first and second show filled three builds, this one filled one building, plus part-way for the second building. But I enjoyed the show anyway, there was collectible dealers, plus show racecars on display and racing gear. They also had autographs and some events, but for us, we watched a couple of minutes of the first discuss of media or something, toured the main building twice and left. I really didn’t find the events interesting nor did I want to listen to the three or four discussions standing up.

Anyway, here are a five more photos (out of 21 photos) taken and copyrighted by me. Five photos out of that 21 are Tony Stewart’s Modified car from NHIS last July and different angles of other cars.

Bottom Row: Shelby GT350 & Sean Caisse’s #44 NASCAR Busch East Series runner-up championship car.

Keeping in the them of a long day trip to Springfield and back, after the even was over, we made a stop at McDonald’s. On of things I tend to notice there and as a matter a fact, anywhere is prices and looking at the receipt. I have noticed that each McDonald’s really has there own pricing, but while I was eating, I noticed this on my receip that after meal orders prices and the Sub Total, there was this, a Eat-In Tax of 0.62.

What, is up with a 62 cent eat-in tax, would I have been charged this if I took it to go. IO have never noticed this before. Its just another small tax that consumers have to deal with. Next time I will get my meal to go and check the receipt too.

Well, who knows if I will go next year, it was better than last year’s Racearma in Foxboro at least, but I will have to wait and see, rightnow I am waiting for July 1st and September for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series weekends at NHIS…See Yeah!

A dose of photography - 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Racecar.

Image was taken by me with a Kodak EasyShare DX6490

- Captured this image that was on display in September of last year (2006) at New Hampshire International Speedway.

When I look at this now, two captions come to mind:
- Thinking about the 2007 Racing Season already.
- Look at this Corvette really closely and then look at NASCAR's Car of Tomorrow, see anything similar..the front splitter and the rear wing, the only difference is the way the front splitter is applied to this corvette vs the way its on the COT, the rear wing doesn't bother me on either car.

Think about that the next two weeks before the 24 hours of Daytona at the end of the month.

See Yeah!

My Take: The Highs and Lows on the 2006 NEIAS in Boston.

A couple weeks ago back on voting day (Nov. 7th), I took in the 2006 New England International Autoshow in Boston, Mass.. I try to take in at least one autoshow per year for the pure entertainment of looking at cars and trying them out, you know, seeing what's new.

My impressions: The only lows to this autoshow was the ticket/parking prices. $10 a ticket ($8 with coupon) and $12 to park. $8 ticket fine, but $12 to park isn't, thats saying it lightly, even parking in a garage is cheaper by more than $7. The other downside, I was expecting to see Camp Jeep and a Chrysler Concept car, but no the both. For the vehicles, there were no real surprises.

The highs: Thinking back to the autoshow, there were a couple of vehicles I was looking to see, the Jeep Compass, Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, Dodge Caliber and Nitro. The published reviews are in most ways harsh, so heres mine.

Starting with the Dodge Caliber/Jeep Compass, these two vehicles are basically the same with some expections, but I liked them both. The interiers are fine, they are not cheap, there good for there price range, the Compass is a Jeep Lite and its not Trail Rated, but both vehicles were not build for that, rather for people who want either a AWD or 4WD vehicle to get them to and from home/work, that includes going on highways, main and backroads with all weather including snow. Simply put, they were built for light duty and thats what they do. I would consider buying either vehicle, the Caliber R/T AWD would be a good pick for me.

The Nitro is basically the Jeep Liberty (which my family owns one) and the only downside is 16 mpg (18 mpg with a better cold air intake). The Jeep Wrangler 2 & 4 dr, I like hard-top, and the overall design looks good with little change from last year. Again, the downsides was under 20 MPG and the price vs. options. Otherwise, the Chrysler Camp did a good job on them all.

Note to Chrysler Camp (DCX), work on the MPG.

One manufacturer that is getting more interesting in styling, is Mazda, with its Mazda3 and Mazda6, both gets high marks in style.

I was a little surpised on the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado and the Subaru WRX, why do both of these car companies continue to change the styling almost yearly. The Silverado's frontend is over kill, if you want to upgrade in style from a Silverado, look at GMC.

I was most impressed with the Chevrolet Corvette, it keeps getting better, front to back. any angle and in almost any color. The corvette is the only vehicle that can pull of most colors including yellow, orange and etc. Looks great in black.

For the highlights of this autoshow in photography, click here to check out the gallery.

All in all, I look forward to going back next year, but the difference between last year and this year, was the family was searching for a new or pre-owned vehicle. Camp Jeep and the love afair of wanting a Jeep sold my father on buying a Jeep Liberty and with the expection of the 18 MPG and the narrow tires, its great. On the other hand, maybe I will try the autoshow in Providence, RI.
