Wow, its just about July, where has the first 6 months of this year gone. Well in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, a series a never miss everyweek has just reached its halfway point in the 2005 season and has just 10 races left in the race to make the chase.
Rusty Wallace and Mark Martin are both running there last season in the Nextel Cup series, Rusty Wallace (who I have been a fan of since I started watching NASCAR in 1992-1993) is on his Rusty's Last Ride and Mark Martin in his Salute to your tour are both running stronger than every. Mark Martin won the Nextel All-star challenge and Rusty Wallace is 6th in points just behind Mark Martin in 5th. Go get them.....
Some of the big stories this season has been Kasey Kahne getting his first career nextel cup victory at Richmond, Roush Racing with Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards, where Greg Biffle has a series-leading 5 victories so far this season and leads in the points over Jimmie Johnson just 22 points back. Eight different drivers has won this season, but the biggest win this season was at Atlanta Motor Speedway when Carl Edwards won not only his first busch series race, but passing Jimmie Johnson on the highside at the line in the Nextel Cup race to win this first Nextel Cup victory. Carl Edwards has been on a rolls this season while running a full season in both the Busch Series and the Nextel Cup Series, where he has two nextel cup victories and now 9th in points.
In the race to make the chase sees Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr are both outside the top 10, but don't count them out. Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace & Jamie McMurray are in the top 10 now, so who will make the chase and who will not?
The halfway point in the season also marks the changing of the broadcast crews with the NBC & TNT crew taking over starting this week at Daytona with the Pepsi 400.
This was just a couple of highlights from the first half of this season, what with the second half of the season bring, all on NBC & TNT... see yeah at the races...
